Paul over at Texas Beer has the scoop on the final installment in Shiner's 100th anniversary beers. Coming in January, it will be called Commemorator, and will be a doppelbock.
Lots of Czechs around Shiner for sure, but Kosmos Spoetzl was German, born in Bavaria where he also trained as a brewmaster. The earliest beers made by the Spoetzl Brewery were German-style starkbiers, much like the 100th Anniversary Commemorator.
Speaking of good beer, we've got our tickets booked to go back to the Starkbierfest in Munich in late March. You and Mags should come, THAT is some good strong beer! I'd love to try the Commemmorator, though. Shiner never disappoints me.
I'd love to go, but alas, I think our traveling money is going to be pretty skimpy this year. I'm just hoping we can afford a trip to Fayetteville, Arkansas next summer.
A momentus occasion indeed. We are big fans of Dopplebocks in our household. Especially the wife.
I was actually hoping that Shiner would throw us all for a loop and brew a Double IPA or something.
A Dopplebock is right up their alley and will great for marketability with their signature Shiner Bock already selling by the boatload. I look forward to it. Shiner 99 was awesome.
I doubt anyone watching this far down in the posts, but FYI Shiner 100 is out. Actually it's been on store shelves in SA for 3 or 4 days now. Overall a great beer. I plan on drinking the heck outta it for the next 11 months at least.

I must defer the scoop back to Machuca. He finally turned up a source-able link, rather than rumors in Interweb forums.
Any word on any sort of special events or goings on? I'm kinda excited. :-)
It's a Czech brewery - why are they making a German-style ale? They should be making a pilsner!
Spoetzl has always been a mix of German and Czech. Have you ever heard of a Czech bock?

Either way, I am buying a 6 pack of Shiner this weekend.
I have yet to try any of their beers. This should be fun.
