Let's Just Rename It 'Lee Nichols Day'

Check it out, y'all: I'm this week's subject of "What's In Your Fridge Friday," a regular feature of Addie Broyles' Relish Austin blog on Austin360.com (the Austin American-Statesman's entertainment website).

Snax in the Statesman!

My buddy Snax (of the Black Star Co-op) was just featured in the Austin American-Statesman's "What's in Your Fridge?" blog feature. Enjoy.

Celis Interview in Today's 'Statesman'

The Austin American-Statesman had a wonderful interview in today's edition with world-famous former Austin brewer Pierre Celis. The 83-year-old is now retired and living back in his native Belgium, but Statesman writer Brad Buchholz (and not, oddly enough, regular beer columnist Patrick Beach) caught up with him on one of his frequent return visits. Just in case you're not clear on why he's world-famous: He's the guy who revived the Hoegaarden's wit-style (white wheat) beer back in the Sixties. He then came to America and made a big mark in the Nineties on the Austin and American brew scenes with his own Celis label before financial realities forced him to sell out to Miller.

The article also gives a nice nod to Kevin Brand's new (512) Brewing, which models its Wit on Celis' version. It's worth your time to read it.

Whoo-hoo! Recognition!

Just this morning, I noticed the food column of the Austin American-Statesman's Addie Broyles (that's her in the picture) for the first time, but a few minutes ago I discovered that she has already noticed me: On her blog, she has me listed in her blogroll, and in this round-up of her favorite local food/drink blogs, she described I Love Beer as "A must for beer connoisseurs."

Thanks, Addie!

Ben Sargent hits the nail on the head

Ben Sargent, the world-class political cartoonist for the Austin American-Statesman, brilliantly summed up how I feel about the silly teeth-gnashing over the sale of Anheuser-Busch to InBev:

Hmm… I wonder if certain other Statesman employee I know was the inspiration for this cartoon?

New Beer Column at the 'Statesman'

Patrick Beach, long one of the Austin American-Statesman's best feature writers, debuted a beer column in today's issue. Give it a read – he writes up the Dogfish Head tasting and film festival held last week at Alamo Drafthouse (which I had to miss – **sob!**). If the Statesman will have the good sense to create a regular link to the column, I'll stick in my blogroll.
