New Texas beers

Two new releases from almost-Austin brewers:

I just picked up a sixer of
Shiner 99, which is a Munich-style Helles lager, and it's damn tasty. I don't really have time to go into much detail (see my previous post about being way too busy lately) but it's kind of like a pilsner, but with a fuller flavor.

Also, I just got off the phone with one of the brewers at Real Ale, and he told me that they're working on a Scotch ale that they're going to call Real Heavy. It will be tap-only, so start looking for it in bars maybe in March, although he said they're still refining it. I'm real excited about that — I love Scotch ales.

I had this at the Flying Saucer on Saturday (3/22) and damn it was nice. It is indeed Real Heavy.

Glad to hear it. They invited me for a preview taste at the brewery, but this will save me a trip to Blanco. (Not that I mind a trip into the Hill Country, but I'm a bit too busy these days.)
