I think it's British.
You are correct! Brewed in Britain, but specifically to be sent to colonists in India. To survive the journey, it had to be high in alcohol and hops. Apparently, according to the cards, India's climate was too hot and the water too foul to brew beer there. And your prize is ... oh wait, I didn't think that far ahead.
